On Tuesday, April 29, 2008, the White House celebrated National Volunteer Week in the East Room. President Bush welcomed the attendees, saying, "I am pleased to welcome volunteers from around the United States who have given of their time to help those who need help, and we're sure glad you're here. Those of you today who perform acts of kindness do so out of love, and you do so out of a desire not to be recognized -- but anyway, you're going to be recognized. We have the opportunity today to thank you, and the opportunity today to celebrate the difference that volunteers have made all across America."

Reid is a volunteer with Army Family Team Building, Army Family Action Plan, the Army Volunteer Corps and Fort Dix Elementary School. To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States. He has met with more than 600 volunteers, like Reid, since March 2002.

Humenycky recently returned to the U.S. after two years of service as a Peace Corps volunteer in West Africa. He has met with more than 600 volunteers, like Humenycky, since March 2002.

Goodreau is a volunteer with the Civil Air Patrol. To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States. He has met with more than 600 volunteers, like Goodreau, since March 2002.

Cleveland is a tutor, classroom reader, and a volunteer with Operation Blessing. To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States. He has met with more than 600 volunteers, like Cleveland, since March 2002.

 

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Cheryl Crowley upon arrival in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Tuesday, March 18, 2008. Crowley is a volunteer with the Palm Beach County Literacy Coalition and Read Together Palm Beach County. To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States. He has met with more than 600 volunteers, like Crowley, since March 2002.

 

President George W. Bush presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to Fred Pancoast upon arrival in Nashville, Tennessee, on Tuesday, March 11, 2008. Pancoast is a volunteer with Operation Stand Down Nashville and other community organizations. To thank them for making a difference in the lives of others, President Bush honors a local volunteer when he travels throughout the United States. He has met with more than 600 volunteers, like Pancoast, since March 2002.

Turner is a volunteer with the American Heart Association Heartland Affiliate. He has met with more than 600 volunteers, like Turner, since March 2002.

Kilduff is a volunteer at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. He has met with more than 600 volunteers, like Kilduff, since March 2002.

The sisters, both students at Harvard-Westlake School, are founders and volunteers with Kid Flicks. He has met with more than 600 volunteers, like the Barta sisters, since March 2002.
